1848-1850

To Sylvester L. Scott of the Township of Pittsford:
Sir you are hearby notified that the School Inspectors of the Township of Pittsford have formed a school District in said Township numbered and bounded as follows No 9 bounded as follows namely Commencing at the quarter stake between Sections Nos 27 and 28 thence South 1/4 of a mile thence West 40 rods thence South one mile thence West 2 miles thence North one mile thence East 1/2 of a mile thence North a 1/2 of a mile thence East one 1/2 miles to the place of beginning.

The first meeting of said District will be held at the house of John Silvernail Jr. on the 4th day of May next at 4 o'clock pm and you are hereby instructed in pursuance of the Law relating to primary schools to notify every qualified voter of said District either personally or by leaving a writing notice at his place of residence of the time and place of said meeting for the Election of Officers and the transaction of such other business as may be necessary.

The house protem of District No 9 convened wording to motion at the house of John Silvernail Jr. and organized by chosing a moderator protem and proceded to elect the officers for the District and Jermiah Whitbeck chosen moderator Lester Monroe Director GL Scott assessor this 4 day of May 1848 the Legal voters of District No 9 adjourned to the 20 of May 1848 at 4 o'clock Pm

Met according to a goverment meeting called to order by the moderator first voted the site to be in the south East corner of section 29
Second voted that we'll build a school House 20 by 26.
Third voted that we'll raise a tax of one hundard and eighty Dollars to Build said House.

Know all men by these present that I John Silvernail of the Township of Pittsford the County of Hillsdale and State of Michigan of the first part for the consideration herein mentioned Does hereby lease unto School District No 9 in the Township County and State aforesaid Party of the second part and their assigns the following Parcel of Land with all the privelige and appertenance thereunto Belonging to have and hold the same for the purpose of school and if the second Part shall

Described as follows it being in the south East Corner of section 29 commencing at the section thence north 6 rods thence west 6 rods thence South 6 rods thence East 6 rods to place of Beginning and the said party of the second Part for themself and their assigns do covenant and aggree to pay the said party of the first Part for the Premises the anual sum of one shilling in testimony wheras the said parties have hereunto set these hands and seals this 20 day of May 1848

Annual School meeting
Sept the 24 1849
It is voted that John Britton serves as moderator for the ensuing year

It is voted that theron B. Seley serves as assessor for the ensuing year

It is voted that Wm. R. Willson serves as Director for the ensuing year

It is voted that the District rais a tax of forty dollars to finish the school house

It is voted that there be a school ten month within the year taught by a female teacher.

It is voted that two thirds of the publick money to be applied to a Winter School
Peter Whitbeck Director put in by the school Board.

it is voted that the district have a man teacher three months a woman teacher six months for the next year

the meeting ajourned to the next annual meeting.
