Course Description:
This
is an introduction to art principles, methods, and materials. Projects stress
skill development and creativity in
drawing, sculpture, painting, and design. Visual vocabulary is also strengthened by the
study of Art History.
III. Prerequisites: None

Units/Lessons:
• Drawing: simple forms, grid transfer,
linear perspective, landscape, still life, portrait, figure.

Painting: color mixing, application

Sculpture: wire, clay, mixed media

Art
II
I. Course Title: Art
II (Advanced Art) 2 Semesters 2 Credits

Course Description:
This
is an extension of the skills and concepts learned in Art I. Students will have opportunities to pursue
long-term art projects of their choice.
III. Prerequisites: Art I
IV.
Units/Lessons:
With
teacher approval students may choose projects based on one or more of these topics: Drawing, painting, sculpture,
collage, printmaking, lettering, art history research, computer art, cartooning, poster design, architectural
design, product design.
Crafts
I. Course
Title: Crafts 2 Semesters 2 Credits
II. Course
Description:
This class focuses on the construction of simple hand-made
objects of utility or decoration.
III. Prerequisites: None
IV. Units/Lessons:
Design vocabulary, Pattern, Clay/Pottery, Plaster casting,
Origami, Macrame, Beading, Weaving,
Basketry, Stencil/Screen printing, Paper-Mache
Crafts II
I. Course
Title: Crafts II 2 Semesters 2 Credits

Description:
This is an extension of skills and techniques learned in
Crafts class.
III. Prerequisites: Crafts I
IV. Units/Lessons:
With teacher approval students may
select their own craft projects.
Music Course Offerings
Band
I. Course
Title: High School Band 2 Semesters 2 Credits
II. Course
Description:
Students learn basic music skills such as music literacy
(note reading, symbol identification,
music vocabulary and terms), rhythm reading (how to count and identify beats), performance techniques
(learning the specific requirements to play the
instrument), and how to prepare for a
performance. These are the same skills learned at the elementary and junior high levels, but or a
more advanced level.
The High School Band plays an important role throughout the
entire school year. Responsibilities
include: Marching at Varsity Football games, Hillsdale County Fair Parade, Fall Pops Concert, Holiday Concert,
Basketball Pep Band, District Band Festival,
Spring Concert, Memorial Day Parade, and Graduation. It is generally assumed that band is a year long
commitment. Performances are given outside of class
time.
There is also the opportunity to belong to the Jazz Band.
This group meets outside of school
time.
III. Prerequisites: Elementary and Junior High Band, unless
proficient skills can be demonstrated.
